Fuel Cell Maintenance and the “Moving Parts” Fallacy
In the comparison between battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, what maintenance looks like is actually the biggest difference between the technologies. It’s not so much comparing apples and pears; more like apples and iPhones.
Hydrogen is less efficient? Part 5: Monty Python's Policy Circus
At a system level, the efficiency of hydrogen systems has implications for energy policy. But other technologies also have compromises. How do we take account of them?
Hydrogen is less efficient? Part 4: The value of Time
There is so much talk about energy efficiency in the electricity system, but very little about time efficiency. In this post Richard Kemp-Harper discusses the case for hydrogen in the time domain.

Hydrogen Challenge Scotland
Arcola Energy - in partnership with Scottish Power and ITM Power - hosts the Hydrogen Challenge 2021 across Scotland, beginning in the Highlands on August 23 and culminating with a grand final in Glasgow.
Hosted by talented and enthusiastic STEM experts, the Hydrogen Challenge is a 2-hour collaborative workshop that puts hydrogen fuel cell technology in the hands of young people. The event guides participants on a journey of exploration to understand the role hydrogen can play in a low-carbon economy – how it empowers communities, provides environmentally sustainable jobs, and addresses air quality in transport infrastructure.
